Procter & Gamble (P&G) has issued a recall for one of its canned cat food formulas due to possible insufficient levels of thiamine (Vitamin B1). All varieties of the company’s Iams ProActive Health canned cat and kitten food (available in both 3 ounce and 5.5 ounce cans) sold and distributed in North America have been recalled as part of the announcement.

In rather shocking news, it was reported yesterday by the Chicago Tribune that the owners of Wheeling, Ill.-based Evanger’s Dog and Cat Food Company are facing charges of felony theft and money laundering for allegedly stealing more than $1.7 million worth of gas and electricity to run the company and its manufacturing plant.

Melamine Found in Dog Treats Sold at Wal-Mart

Wal-Mart has pulled two Chinese brands of dog treats from its shelves following customer reports of sickened pets. Dick Van Patten’s Natural Balance Pet Foods has recalled several of its Natural Balance Eatables dog foods due to the possible presence of botulinum toxin, which can cause botulism.
